chartreuse

First, my Bahamas pictures are online. Here are some of my favorites:

The view of the parachute as I parasailed:

And the view downwards, plus a foot and a dress (both mine):

Now, the chartreuse problem:

Since I was seven, when I came into ownership of a 124-color Crayola set, I have thought that chartreuse was accurately represented there: that it was a bright, nearly fluorescent yellow (it is apparently the 'electric lime' on this page). I have just learned (in the course of copy-editing) that it's actually a yellowish-green. This demonstration of editing tedium (sorry Cheryl) aside, I wondered how many other people were under delusions about chartreuse. Last night, after my friend Matt's show at the Sidewalk Cafe in NY, I asked him, Brian and Bradley (ie the Whomping Willows and Draco and the Malfoys) what they thought of when they heard 'chartreuse.'

Matt: Reddish purple?
Brad: Yellow? Green? Oh! I know, it's a really deep green.
Brian: I think...whatever you think I'm thinking right now.

It's a big Crayola confusion conspiracy. Any other confused colorers out there?

all I know is that when I was seven, chartreuse was my favorite color because it was a funny word. I do not believe I knew what it looked like...

I dont know why I thought Chartreuse to be a blue-ish hue, but apparently I had another color in mind...

And your big box from crayola only had 124 crayons? You got gypped (jipped? jypped?) as there should have been 128 crayons.

I totally thought chartreuse was some sort of red or purple.

Bander Fails at Color Wheel Yet Again.

By the way, great pictures! Looks like you had a fabulous vacation.

Feet? That's it. Feet? Where's the human element? Or is this just to provide contrast with Coney Island?

Now, I do know what Chartreuse is. It's a drink. And it's a yellow-green. I tend to think of it as more a champagne colour as I have a red-green deficiency.

Colours I always have to think twice about are the purples of puce and mauve and lavender.

And whoever named the colours khaki, taupe and olive was playing mindgames.

I hear Crayola retired Burnt Sienna. Is that true? Mind you, it's just a clay-like brown and sounds like a war film about the Italian campaign, but, still, it was a classic.

I remember my art teacher was named Mrs. Chartrau, which she connected to chartreuse every change she got... I always thought chartreuse was a yellowish green...

I loved the shot from your window...shots like that build dreams out of nowhere.

I don't know about chartreuse but Crayola has given up Burnt Sienna??! That's sad, it was an awesome sounding colour.

I was never confused about the shade of chartreuse as it was, in fact, my favorite color for some time, but I always thought it was ill-named. Chartreuse sounds much more like a pinky-purple-red color. It makes me think along the lines of magenta, and for some reason a horrible 80's-style taffeta prom dress.

Bonjour !

Chartreuse is indeed a drink, made in my area of France (http://www.chartreuse.fr/) and as to the color, I am sure you could ask the distinguised Professor Ludwig Von Drake, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u8ygqKf5Sg)
who knows everything about colors :) !!

Ahhh, looks like you had a lot of fun....And it sounded like fun, too, the way you described it all on PotterCast. *sighs* I wish I had a dolphin that could push me around.

Chartreuse is yellow-green? o_O I always thought it was blue-ish. MY WORLD IS COLLAPSING NOW.

I thought chartreuse was a yellow-green color. I only learned what it was when i was in 8th grade because my friend wrote a poem about Bruce the Sock Monster, who steals socks and he eats them (it was to explain the reason why you can only ever find one of the socks in a pair), and one of the colors of the socks that the monster ate was chartreuse.

i wonder if anyones ever thought to bring a broom up parasailing with them (i can fly! i can fly!)

ps chartreuse.... never even had a clue but it makes me think yellow brown with a hint of green, some nature like color

Crayola are kind of right.
On the Wiki page it looks yellow
wow.
this is a conspiracy.

Now they have silly colors like Macaroni and Cheese and Mauvelous. WOW
