Questions for All of You

| | Comments (31) | TrackBacks (0)

While I'm busy pondering all your wonderful questions I thought I'd tag you all in my self-made meme, which is the 2009 way of saying, "Here are some questions that I'd like you to answer and then pose to your friends too." Unlike other memes, there's no central idea here or organizational structure. I'm making this up in about three minutes.

1. "Dollhouse" is about girls who are frequently "imprinted" with new personalities (I'm not making the Twilight joke, I'm not); make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it.

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school?

3. Television show you would wipe off the face of the earth if you could?

4. Mangos or avocados?

5. Edward Cullen (or for the sake of argument, Edwina Cullina) or your first boy/girlfriend?

6. Ocean or lake?

7. Has the economic crisis affected you, and how?

8. Are you done with your taxes?

9. What's your dream job?

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...."

(Space bucks are just imaginary dollars. :D)

1. "Dollhouse" is about girls who are frequently "imprinted" with new personalities (I'm not making the Twilight joke, I'm not); make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it.

I feel lucky in that I love my life right now and wouldn't trade it for anything, but I wouldn't say no to producing theater in Disney World

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school?

The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon - it had so much going on, I don't think I fully processed it until a year or so later.

3. Television show you would wipe off the face of the earth if you could?

America's Next Top Model - besides the addictive-ness factor, I'm not sure it's good for society to constantly see a show that's based on judging other human beings for their appearance.

4. Mangos or avocados?

Depends on my mood, but today, mangos for sure.

5. Edward Cullen (or for the sake of argument, Edwina Cullina) or your first boy/girlfriend?

my first boyfriend - not a great relationship, but I definitely learned some things I needed to know.

6. Ocean or lake?

Ocean - less pollution, better waves, better scenery.

7. Has the economic crisis affected you, and how? - it's affecting the way I think about what I'm going to do after college, and several of my friends and their families have been directly impacted.

8. Are you done with your taxes?

Yes, but only because they are uncomplicated this year

9. What's your dream job? - Producing local television (or producing theater in Disney World)

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...." --- not actually sure what a space buck is, but if I could do one thing I can't do right now, I would definitely want to teleport/apparate.

Well, the economy hasn't affected me too badly because I live in Oklahoma, where our state constitution doesn't allow us to be in debt. But that also means that are roads are in pitiful shape and our inner-city school suck ass.

1. "Dollhouse" is about girls who are frequently "imprinted" with new personalities (I'm not making the Twilight joke, I'm not); make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it.
I'd keep my own personality. =)

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school?
Considering I'm not in high school yet... at first I really hated Coraline then I loved it?

3. Television show you would wipe off the face of the earth if you could?
That's So Raven. *pukes*

4. Mangos or avocados?

Neither.

5. Edward Cullen (or for the sake of argument, Edwina Cullina) or your first boy/girlfriend?

Again, neither.

6. Ocean or lake?
Lake.

7. Has the economic crisis affected you, and how?
My dad lost my job so now I can't be in band anymore.

8. Are you done with your taxes?
Too young for taxes. Woot!

9. What's your dream job?
Photojournalist.

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...."

If I had a billion space bucks, I would buy every single HP thing on the web and donate the rest to the HP Alliance and BookAid International. Oh, and go to Wrockstock.

I answered these questions over on my blog. http://urlzen.com/6ah :) Great Idea Melissa!

1. Make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it.
--> Of course I wish I was more do-it and less lazy and generally un-Gryffindory, and I wish I could think the right things to say in the moment, in stead of hours later. The money/lifestyle to travel more would be nice, too, but that's about it.

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school?
--> Still in high school, not really hating anything (yet).

3. Television show you would wipe off the face of the earth if you could?
--> I don't really watch TV (only on DVD) so I don't know...

4. Mangos or avocados?
--> Right now, mangos, but I really like guacamole, so...

5. Edward Cullen (or for the sake of argument, Edwina Cullina) or your first boy/girlfriend?
--> Oh, I haven't had a boyfriend yet... But I'd still chose him.

6. Ocean or lake?
--> Ocean. Because it's closer. And bigger. And wavier.

7. Has the economic crisis affected you, and how?
--> Probably, though I can't think of how directly. I think I am very lucky.

8. Are you done with your taxes?
--> Thank gosh I don't have to do any for a few years.

9. What's your dream job?
--> Journalist, book editor, author. And anything like that that would allow me to travel.

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...."
--> Book a plane ticket to LeakyCon and Azkatraz ASAP. Then go out and buy some books and CDs I've been wanting for a long time (lots of Wizard Rock). And then... give some to my parents to pay off the house, etc. And then... give some to an as yet undetermined charity, and save the rest. Yeah, kind of boring.

1. I woud be a special agent, just like Jennifer Gardner in Alias, with multiple roles to play. BTW, I really enjoyed the first episode of Dollhouse.

2. I still hate the books I hated in high school. But there were not a lot of them that I hated.

3. A French show called "c'est quoi l'amour?" ("what is love?" following couples having lame relationships or lame ways to live their relationships.

4. Both

5. Although I do not like Edwar Cullen very much, I must sy that is still better than my first boyfriend :-)

6. Ocean

7. Not particularly for the moment

8. Yes

9. A job where I could travel a lot

10. If I had a billion space bucks, I would take all my colleagues, friends and their families and take them on a boat for a full week, on the Mediterranean Sea. I would buy a nice house. I would create fundations, helping women and children...

(Space bucks are just imaginary dollars. :D)

1. "Dollhouse" is about girls who are frequently "imprinted" with new personalities (I'm not making the Twilight joke, I'm not); make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it. I would love to be a kick ass, super smart person like Jennifer Garner in Alias. I'd love to have the know how to protect my family in any circumstance.

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school? If I hated then, I hate it now. So my favorite book to hate from high school is Heart of Darkness. I appreciate it for the dark demise of human nature, but it sucks to read. "The Horror! The Horror!"

3. Television show you would wipe off the face of the earth if you could? Reality shows about finding love. Ugh.

4. Mangos or avocados? By default, mangoes. I've tried avocados multiple times, and avocado allure eludes me (how's that for alliteration - and I'm typing with my kids at my feet).

5. Edward Cullen (or for the sake of argument, Edwina Cullina) or your first boy/girlfriend? Hmm, tricky. My first boyfriend is an attractive orthapedic surgeon who probably doesn't want to kill me - I'll go with him. Though I do have a thing for Edward.

6. Ocean or lake? Lake - I live in Wisconsin; swimming in salty water is just odd.

7. Has the economic crisis affected you, and how? Yes, my Roth IRA and 401(K) are UGLY. Also, the hubby is a banking attorney - so he is working late a lot.

8. Are you done with your taxes? Yes, we are getting a refund this year!

9. What's your dream job? Rachael Ray has a pretty good gig. I love to cook, I love to travel, and I love to write.

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...." Buy a lovely home on a nearby lake, make sure all my family members were financially secure, and work with the Gates' charity to wipe out illiteracy.

1. Overall, I'm pretty happy with my life at the moment. I think it would be really cool to live Jo's life for a while, just to experience it...but I'm sure a week would be more than long enough. (I appreciate your restraint on the Twilight joke, btw.)

2. Actually, mine is from middle school. I read To Kill a Mockingbird in 7th grade with a fantastic teacher and loved it. Then I changed schools and had to read it again in 8th grade, and the teacher went so slowly and didn't do anything interesting with it. I think I just sat in class and re-read the book about five times.

3. Wife Swap, Survivor, Jon and Kate Plus Eight, The Apprentice...I really hate reality TV unless it actually contributes to society, like The Biggest Loser or Little People, Big World

4. Tough, tough choice. If there's guacamole from Chipotle or my friend Helen, then avocados. In all other cases, mangoes.

5. Since I've never had a boyfriend, we'll say Edward Cullen. (I do like him an awful lot!!) Hopefully I'll be able to get back to you on this question someday...

6. Ocean!! Because it's warm and there's sand, and also I'm annoyed with Lake Erie for giving us so much snow.

7. It hasn't affected me in any big ways yet, but prices keep going up in the cafeterias on campus, especially on healthy, less processed things like veggies and fruit. However, I'm about to commence with the summer job search, so we'll see...

8. The joys of being in college...I'm still a dependent, so my dad does mine!! :)

9. To be a professional dancer and write books in my spare time (not that I'll have any).

10. I would give 10 % to my church, then I would give my presbytery as much money as they need to get our summer camp up and running again. Then I would admittedly set aside about $500 to buy books, leotards, and music for myself. I would split the rest evenly between Compassion International and the HP Alliance.

Great questions!!

1. I'd be more confident and a little more outgoing but I'd keep my lifestyle. It may not be the most amazing life ever but I love the way I live.

2. The Catcher in the Rye. It really disturbed me in high school but now, I can see the complexities of it.

3.

4. Avocado!!!

5. Neither.

6. Ocean

7. Yes. My Mother in law was laid off (which means she's around ALOT), my investments have either shrunk by way too much or are currently stuck in real estate that can't be moved, and my husband is working a million hours a week so he won't have to be in the next round of lay offs.

8. Nope. Super busy.

9. Photographer - working in both nature and family photography. Not the portraiture style though. I hate posed pictures.

10. If I had a million space bucks, I would make sure my family was taken care of, invest pursuing in my dream job, invest in the pursuing of my husband's dream job, give to my favorite charities, buy a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes .. I could go on forever.

1. It has taken me a while to settle into the personality and life that I have. I think I'm just fine where I am, really. Though I guess adding the ability to play the guitar or piano would be nice.

2. I really liked the books I read in HS. And I remember more about college books. I am getting too old to remember high school.

3. "Whoopi" was successfully destroyed a while back, but I guess I could target "Two-and-a-half Men" now . . . or "American Idol."

4. Avocados!

5. Easy! My first girlfriend over Edwina Cullen every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Humans are much more interesting that fascimilies of supposed "perfection" (alabaster skin or otherwise).

6. Lake . . . because you can see the other side.

7. Luckily, not so much. Both my wife and I have our jobs and we aren't too worried. But we've always tried to be careful with our level of debt.

8. Haven't even started yet.

9. Hmmm. Getting paid to be a TV recapper on a web site? (But I suspect they don't get paid well enough.)

10. "If I had a billion space bucks, I would.... pay my debts, save for my kids college, give ten percent to church, another ten percent to charities, and throw a big party!"

1. "Dollhouse" is about girls who are frequently "imprinted" with new personalities (I'm not making the Twilight joke, I'm not); make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it.

I'd like to be confident. Self-confidence affects work, love, so many aspects of life. As I age, I have grown much more confident, but as a young girl/young adult, I could have been a much stronger person. And I still can today.

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school?
Moby Dick - hated, hated, hated it. I always had so much trouble getting past the first chapter.

4. Mangos or avocados?
Avocados - creamy, yummy, and good for you to boot!

5. Edward Cullen (or for the sake of argument, Edwina Cullina) or your first boy/girlfriend?
Edward Cullen, definitely. But then, you don't know my first boyfriend!

6. Ocean or lake?
Ocean, easy. A warm salt breeze on the air, waves pounding the sand, an endless horizon. Yep, for me, ocean.

7. Has the economic crisis affected you, and how?
My husband is currently not working, although not directly related to the economic crisis; it was a personal choice to leave for him. But, it will certainly impact his ability to find work, so yes.

8. Are you done with your taxes?
Nope, but my husband swears he'll have them ready for me to review soon! (See #7, which explains why he has the time to be working on them.)

9. What's your dream job?
Novelist or cardiologist... I'm always torn by these two, but if I had to choose, I'd say novelist.

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...."

...end hunger in at least some parts of the world. Maybe that would lead to world peace, and I could solve two problems with one bird, or a billion space bucks, as the case may be.

1. "Dollhouse" is about girls who are frequently "imprinted" with new personalities (I'm not making the Twilight joke, I'm not); make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it.

I would want to be an author I think, from what I've seen everyone do it looks like an awesome job to talk to readers and make them inspired.

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school?

Since I just got out of high school last year it's hard to say, because I really don't have time to read for pleasure in college. But I'm going to go with the Great Gatsby. I just bought it in hopes to read it during spring break/summer. Hopefully I'll enjoy it more now that i don't have my teacher yelling out the symbols in it.
But to make it eaiser my favorite book I read while in high school is a toss between Tale of Two Cities and To Kill A Mockingbird.

3. Television show you would wipe off the face of the earth if you could?

Either is good, but more toward avocados.

5. Edward Cullen (or for the sake of argument, Edwina Cullina) or your first boy/girlfriend?

6. Ocean or lake?

Oceans- lakes seem kind of gross to me.

7. Has the economic crisis affected you, and how? - it's affecting the way I think about what

Im in college so there's always a fear that I won't get the loans I need or the tuition situation i have will go sour, so that is pretty scary. And also I waitress to make money, and the tips are getting less and less and there are less hours for me to work since many people don't go out to eat as much.

No, I'm seeing an accountant next week, but my taxes are pretty simple...I think/

9. What's your dream job?

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...."

There aren't any books which I disliked then but like now. Fortunately, not much at the moment. We'll see.

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school?

Heart of Darkness. It's one of those books that you need to spend time on, not rush through it and then analyze it so much you hate even hearing the name. I'm interested in reading it now once I finished the four other books I'm reading.

The funny thing is when I bought the book at barnes and noble the cashier told me it's the best book I'll ever read.

I would choose Edward every time!ok, so I'm 15 and never had a boyfriend before, but still, EDWARD CULLEN. I don't mind perfection so much.

(Space bucks are just imaginary dollars. :D)

1. "Dollhouse" is about girls who are frequently "imprinted" with new personalities (I'm not making the Twilight joke, I'm not); make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it.

I'm getting paid less probably (Starting new job soon). Though hopefully my rent will fall when I move for said job or stay the same here when I move back after the jobs contract ends.

In college we never stop hearing about it, its so annoying. I've kind of given up caring to be honest though. What will happen, will happen.

Go to a live pottercast or fly you all over here to Ireland for an irish pottercast! XD Go to Azkatraz/leakycon.

Keep it quiet. Tell only my best friends (not my family). Buy a few things that would make my life easier or my friend's lives easier. Perhaps an apartment or maybe the building where I live now. Learn to drive. Buy all the books on my reading list. Perhaps a new laptop. Hire my favourite live band for a private gig for my friends and go see the other top 2/3 in concert somewhere. Give a huge chunk to a charity I'm involved with and anonymous donation to my old school. Invest the rest.

3. Television show you would wipe off the face of the earth if you could? Flavor of Love

4. Mangos or avocados? Avocados

5. Edward Cullen (or for the sake of argument, Edwina Cullina) or your first boy/girlfriend? Neither.

6. Ocean or lake? Ocean

7. Has the economic crisis affected you, and how? Yes, I am recently out of college and can't afford anything, nor can I find a job anywhere.

9. What's your dream job?

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...." go to leakycon and azkatraz and not feel guilty about spending money in either place

1. "Dollhouse" is about girls who are frequently "imprinted" with new personalities (I'm not making the Twilight joke, I'm not); make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it.

My only personality trait that I would like to have is one that can publicly speek. In an oral argument for my philospohy class, as I walked by my prof, I was so nervous, I actually threw up on his shoes!

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school?

Sense and Sensibility

3. Television show you would wipe off the face of the earth if you could?

Lost - I have tried to start watching that show from season 1 because everybody talks about and I get freaking lost! I guess the title definitely works.

4. Mangos or avocados?

Mangos

5. Edward Cullen (or for the sake of argument, Edwina Cullina) or your first boy/girlfriend?

First boy

6. Ocean or lake?

lake next to an ocean? I love the sounds of the waves.. but I also love the slowness and the quietness of a lake (unless you are at Lake Bemdji in MN- then the quiet disappears, which is fun too!)

7. Has the economic crisis affected you, and how?

Yes, my job is being "phased out" so I am off to North Dakota to get my masters

8. Are you done with your taxes?

Yes. I am one of those people on the 30th saying "Why haven't I gotten my W-2's yet?"

9. What's your dream job?

I want to work at the Library of Congress.. I think being surround by all of those books and the smell of the books, the wood and the history...

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...."

(Space bucks are just imaginary dollars. :D)

I have never wanted a lot of money like that - it makes too many people corrupt, I would probably give it to alot of charities (minus like 400,000 so I could make a small little cabin a lake in the woods - and just have enough left over so that I would not have to work and just read, write really really bad poetry, and swim. The only other thing I would do with it is pay off student loans and textbooks (I've been out of college close to 5 years and I am still paying on the credit card for those textbooks.. sheesh!))

1. "Dollhouse" is about girls who are frequently "imprinted" with new personalities (I'm not making the Twilight joke, I'm not); make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it.

I'd love to be a novelest, never had the ability but it's one of those things I wish I could do, and to be more illiterate, I'm not really the brightest buch of the pickles.

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school? Most of the ones I hated I still hate, I really didn't enjoy 'Of Mice and Men' not because it was bad, just wasn't by choice of melon juice. I suppose, it would be Wuthering Heights which I've grown to like again after too much re-reading. Cathy still needs a good old sense of whiplash though. She's a dick.

3. Television show you would wipe off the face of the earth if you could?

ANY superifical American teen shows with no heart like Paris's New BFF, those shows make me wanna die.

Harry Potter.

6. Ocean or lake? Ocean - I wanna see whales!

7. Has the economic crisis affected you, and how? Yeah it has, less work, mum needing help, the lot.

8. Are you done with your taxes? Don't earn enough to be taxed!

9. What's your dream job? To be a contemporary dancer *signs*

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...." buy you a mon-KEY!

1. "Dollhouse" is about girls who are frequently "imprinted" with new personalities (I'm not making the Twilight joke, I'm not); make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it.

I just generally wish I was more commited to doing the things I want to do. I wish I wasn't embarrased so easily, and that I was nicer to everyone. I wish I was more hard working.

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school?

Wuthering Heights. There is just nothing about that book that I liked. Hence why my entire class nicknamed it 'Blithering Shites'.

3. Television show you would wipe off the face of the earth if you could?

Hannah Montana. Or anything involving Paris Hilton.

4. Mangos or avocados?

Love them both, but avocados have it. Gotta love the guacamole.

5. Edward Cullen (or for the sake of argument, Edwina Cullina) or your first boy/girlfriend?

Edward Cullen. Despite the intensity and lack of humour. My first boyfriend was a douche, so Edwars wins.

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...."

Pay off the mortgage on my parent's house, and anybody else I love who needs dept paying off. Then buy a home gym, treadmill etc. Go on the most massive shopping spree with my mum and friends, buy my dad a workshop to make his violins in. Save enough to keep me comfortable for the rest of my life, then donate the rest to various charities. Woahh.. long list of stuff. :)

Much love.x

1. "Dollhouse" is about girls who are frequently "imprinted" with new personalities (I'm not making the Twilight joke, I'm not); make up the personality/lifestyle you'd like to have and tell me about it.
- Well, the life I would give anything to have now is the life I had during the second half of 2008. From July to December, I live in Capetown in South Africa (I’m Australian) and I did volunteer work in a school for disabled children. It was easily the best 6 months of my life and as close to perfect as my life has ever been. I worked full time in a job I absolutely loved, with amazing inspiring people. I formed deep relationships with the kids in my care and loved them more than I thought possible. I had awesome friends outside work and we went out every weekend and drank and danced and always had a good time. I had a boy who actually liked me for me and things were easy and nice and uncomplicated. I got to travel all over South Africa and experience other cultures and poverty first hand. I had experiences other people only dream about. I even went skydiving. I was free, my life had meaning and I was truly myself. Now I’m back in Australia and for reasons I won’t go into, I don’t have that same happiness and I find it difficult to be the person I am like I could while I was away. I miss it every day and hope to go back as soon as possible.

2. Favorite book that you hated in high school?
- 1984 by George Orwell – I’m still not a huge fan of it, but I appreciate it a lot more, especially now that I’m studying Communications and Media.

3. Television show you would wipe off the face of the earth if you could?
- Ladette to Lady. I don’t know if it’s in the U.S, but it teaches young "wild" girls to be ladies, based on the ideas that a lady sits quietly in the corner, doesn’t drink or have pre-marital sex, is polite, only speaks when spoken to and the idea of fun is a board game. It’s as if women’s liberation never happened.

4. Mangos or avocados?
- I love them both, but I’ll have to go with avocados.

5. Edward Cullen (or for the sake of argument, Edwina Cullina) or your first boy/girlfriend?
- I am really not a fan of Edward Cullen. I loved him in the first book, but from books 2-4 I was 100% a Jacob girl. I’m going to state the obvious: EDWARD HAS NO PERSONALITY!!!! I think it shows how superficial and materialistic a person is based on their Edward/Jacob preferences – I will pick a funny, intelligent, likeable guy over a vapid supermodel any day. Having said that, my first boyfriend was horrible, and I’d prefer Edward as a first boyfriend to him.

6. Ocean or lake?
- Ocean. I love the beach, despite the sand.

7. Has the economic crisis affected you, and how?
- To an extent, yes. I don’t have a job, and I can’t get a job. All I want is a casual job waitressing or in retail or something for cash while I’m at uni. Since I got back from Africa, I’ve been applying non-stop for jobs, and 3 months later am still unemployed. Before I left, getting a casual job was the easiest in the world. Now, nowhere can afford to hire new staff, especially not casuals, or even keep the ones they already have.

8. Are you done with your taxes?
- Well, in Australia, our taxes are due later than yours, I’m assuming, around September I think.

9. What's your dream job?
- Right now, to go back to Africa and continue doing exactly what I was doing. For the future, I have no clue.

10. Finish this sentence: "If I had a billion space bucks, I would...."
- Pay for a flight back to Capetown, buy myself a nice little apartment and car, keep as much as I needed for living expenses and work as a volunteer for the rest of my days.

1. I wouldn't really change my personality. But I would like to be able to travel more as far as lifestyle goes.
2. Any book I ever have to read in school I don't usually like while I'm reading. Then, once I read them of my own free will I like them.
3. All of the MTV "reality shows".
4. Mangoes I guess.
5 Edward Cullen. Just because my first boyfriend is not someone I'd ever want to really be with.
6.Ocean. I love the ocean. Lakes are great, too. But nothing beats the ocean.
7. Yes. I quit my job in December. Now I'm trying to find a new one, and there is just nothing to find.
