imagesI've been spending some time this morning (procrastinating, more like) looking at photography galleries on the Web. I'm no photographer but I love the art; I particularly love when a picture shifts our perceptions, makes us understand what it might feel like to be an inch tall, or sixty feet high, or a bird, or a child. That's why I love this simple pic of tulips my old roommate took outside our house, and this one my sister took at fourth of July last year.
This morning I've found some great stuff on PBase.com - my favorite is (surprise) Milk Meets Coffee (and her followup, Color Collision), because it's created a whole different world out of these little moments to which we don't usually pay attention. Then there's Siem Reap, a gorgeous gallery choosing such life and hope in such simple lives.
There are plenty of other worthwhile galleries there - I took a trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights, and Prague, just because, all this morning. Fun stuff.

new will!Howdy from William DeLong's first birthday party...lots of pictures (unedited, just thrown up onto Gallery, Kristin :P) right here, featuring the boy in his new red convertible (hehe, I HAD to), and in his new sandbox. One of my favorites is this one, with his Uncle Nate, who always makes him laugh.

more picsWell, not new pics, but a little site update: I moved the William DeLong gallery over to the new galleries. ;)
And...it seems life is conspiring to steal time from me... yesterday, looking forward to my first day off in a while, I got a voice mail message that a story I've been covering for a year and a half (ferry crash) was coming to a swift and exciting end of sorts. Two people - the only big ones left - pleaded guilty, essentially making it the last big story we'll write on the subject. This story that has felt like my baptism in journalism ended yesterday. Seth and I worked our butts off, then toasted with some brandy in a geeky and nostalgic fashion, and went out to dinner to celebrate/reminisce. We held up a glass to the poor people who lost their lives and had a moment to remember them, and then put a nice seal on the entire year and a half by enjoying friendly company and reminding ourselves who we were before and are after this entire ordeal. It felt important to do - hugely important, and I'm glad I was working with someone who felt that importance, too.

Gallery of Will! And it's up! A whole gallery of the William DeLong. If this isn't enough go look at the videos BK posted, because the dollbaby cannot be contained to still frames. The ones below are only a few; either open one and keep hitting "next," or go to the link under them for the full thumbnail gallery.
Use this link for the full gallery; the link below is dead because something is wrong with my setup. Posted by melissa at 4:15 PM | permalink | comments (8)
